The Next Tourism Generation (NTG) desk research report has been composed by Breda University of Applied Sciences, focusing on digital, social and green skills in the tourism industry in Europe. Furthermore, the most important trends, issues and challenges in digital and sustainability skills development for the tourism and hospitality sector were being reviewed in the partner countries involved in the NTG project (Bulgaria, Germany, UK, Spain, Hungary, Ireland, Italy and the Netherlands). The European Vocational Skills Week 2019 will be hosted in Helsinki in October 2019. This event focuses on discussing multiple stakeholder perspectives on the implementation of Vocational Education and Training (VET) and how this can be beneficial for the future of Europe. Furthermore, the very best of training and skills through thousands of events and activities across Europe will be highlighted in order to show why Vocational Education and Training is a smart choice for individuals and companies. In January 2019, The Next Tourism Generation Alliance (NTG) was represented at the FiturtechY. This is the specialized section for technology and tourism that FITUR – IFEMA and the Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero (ITH) jointly organize annually. This section of FITUR, the International Tourism Fair in Spain, has more than 12 years of history, through which it has become a benchmark for innovation in the sector. Covering a space of more than 2,000 square metres at Feria de Madrid, the section has four forums dedicated to business management, tourism destinations, sustainability and future trends in tourism – all connected by technology as the main theme. FiturtechY also has an exhibition space, in which visitors have the opportunity to see the latest developments in digital technology.
The Next Tourism Generation Alliance key partners gathered in Sopron, Hungary last week to discuss the progress of the project. During those meetings, several sessions were filmed and broadcasted on Hungarian television. The video is in Hungarian but gives an impression of the get-together. The Dissemination Event of the Next Tourism Generation Alliance will take place in Budapest, Hungary on 5th April. During this event, all the key partners of the NTG project will get together to discuss trends, partnerships and the following actions. The Next Tourism Generation Alliance will be represented by project leader Silvia Barbone during the free Live Session on ‘Reshaping tourism through sustainable investments in projects’, Thursday, March 28th, 2019 at 3 pm CET (Berlin). Silvia will be one of the tourism and development experts explaining how the NTG project is aiming to achieve successful results, ensuring tangible and lasting benefits when it comes to projects in sustainable tourism. Sustainability in tourism has seen increasing recognition in the last years, but too often the expected results were not achieved. This live discussion will focus on the insights from the experts and their opinions on reasons behind project failures and how to actually achieve project success.

Next Tourism Generation (NTG) key partner Varna University of Management presented the NTG project during the workshop at the HELIX project on February 21, 2019. The HELIX project focuses on the potential of the Balkan-Mediterranean hospitality sector, in order to boost the regional and national economic growth. Furthermore, new employment opportunities are rising in this area as well.
As a result of the first phase of the second work package of the Next Tourism Generation (NTG) – aims at creating an Industry Skills Needs Assessment Report representing a database of (future) skills criteria / industry needs – the desk research report has been completed. It was composed under supervision of Breda University of Applied Sciences, and provides an overview of existing (European and global) studies, developments and reports related to skills gaps in digital, green and social skills.READ MORE
