On the 18th November 2021 the NTG Alliance hosted the online conference ‘Next Tourism Generation: Building a skilled workforce’. This conference was broken into four main modules, upskilling and reskilling in tourism and hospitality, addressing skills needs with innovative collaboration, integrating new skills into industry and education curricula and envisioning a skills partnership in the tourism sector.

Paudie Healy, CEO of Universal Access Ireland, shares his insights and experiences of best practices in the sector.
Dr. Agnė Vaitkuvienė is the President of the Lithuanian Countryside Tourism Association, the owner and manager of the homestead “Provansalis”, and a lecturer at Vilnius University. She has been teaching at Vilnius University since 2006, in the courses – Interpretation and Communication of Cultural Heritage, Cultural Heritage in Contemporary Lithuania and Cultural Heritage and Tourism. She therefore combines “the best of two worlds”: practical experience as a small rural tourism entrepreneur, and at the same time a profound understanding and vision about the importance of training and skills development in this sector.
In this two series blog, the Next Tourism Generation (NTG) Consortium present their perspective on the impact of Covid-19 in terms of challenges related to skills development, how these may change and what the impacts may be on tourism sub-sectors during and after the crisis. Our key partner ATLAS – Association of Tourism and Leisure Education and Research organized the first INCOME Tourism / NTG webinar last September. There were 15 participants that joined the special track on Tourism Education, Employability and Industry with 5 presentations from 5 different perspectives/countries via the online webinar. The presentations focused on questions of how HEIs can foster employability of tourism students by addressing the right skills and on effective methods of teaching and training in close cooperation with the tourism industry and HEIs.READ MORE
On Friday 20th September, INCOME Tourism and the Next Tourism Generation Alliance organize a Webinar on the main theme ‘Tourism Education, Employability and Industry – University interaction’. This webinar will be hosted by the University of Girona at the ATLAS Annual Conference. This event is organized by NTG key partner ATLAS.
Students can find it challenging starting as a prepared professional in the tourism work field. The Next Tourism Generation Alliance (NTG) aims to address this gap and highlight possibilities and tools to promote professionalism and employability via university tourism modules. Breda University of Applied Sciences offers first-year Tourism Management students the E-Lab module, a 6-week course where they are introduced and acquainted with online programmes and tools used in the industry.
